New Artist Alert

12 Oct

I turned on Sirius XM radio the other day and a song was on I hadn’t heard before. It was just about over when the DJ came on and mentioned the artist’s name and compared her to Beyonce. I’m not quite sure I agree with that statement, but this woman has an amazing voice (and crazy hair too).

Her name’s Emeli Sandé and she’s a Scottish recording artist and songwriter. You might recognize her because she performed in both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. She has also written songs for a number of artists, including Cher Lloyd, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, Alesha Dixon, Cheryl Cole and more.

Emeli recently came out with an album called Our Version of Events. After it’s release in February 2012, it peaked at number one in the UK. I encourage you to check it out.

I buy a lot of music from iTunes, but before I decide on buying an entire album I preview snippets of each song first. Sometimes, you can save money that way if you don’t like the whole album, but not always. In any case, I bought the entire album. Emeli has a unique  voice that’s powerful and a bit soulful. There are few other good songs on the album too.

Here are some of my favs:

  • My Kind of Love
  • Breaking the Law
  • Daddy (feat. Naughty Boy)
  • Suitcase
  • Wonder

Let me know what you think. Here’s the song she performed at the Olympics. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

Shine Bright Like A Diamond

30 Sep

I heard this song yesterday and I immediately fell in love. I could tell it was Rihanna, but I had never heard it before, so I had to look it up. Sure enough, it was my girl and yes, I bought it immediately. I buy a lot of music. I’m always looking for something new and it’s easy to get sick of songs quickly. Don’t you agree?

The song is called Diamonds, which premiered this past Wednesday. It’s Rihanna’s first single off her seventh album, which will drop in November. I guess that makes sense why her upcoming Diamonds World Tour is called what it is. Rihanna’s one of my favorite artists and I’m shocked I didn’t know about this. In any case, I can’t wait to watch her perform it live this March in Buffalo, which is where she will kick off her world tour. Eeek.

Rihanna spoke to US radio presenter Elvis Duran during her visit to the iHeartRadio music festival and said that the new single was “laid-back ” and “hopeful”, adding: “It gives me such a great feeling when I listen to it. The lyrics are very hopeful and positive, but it’s about love and the gears are a little different from what people would expect. I’m excited to surprise them sonically.”

I can’t wait to hear the rest of it.

Diamonds

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond

Find light in the beautiful sea
I chose to be happy
You and I, you and I
We’re like diamonds in the sky

You’re a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I’m alive
We’re like diamonds in the sky

I knew that we’d become right away, oh right away
At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

I knew that we’d become right away, oh right away
At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

So shine bright, tonight, you and I
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye, so alive
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Palms rise to the universe
As we, moonshine and molly
Feel the warmth we’ll never die
We’re like diamonds in the sky

You’re a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I’m alive
We’re like diamonds in the sky

At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the light inside your eyes

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond

Dance for You xoxo

2 Jul

Yikes! It’s been eight months since my last blog post. Gosh, time flies when you’re having fun. I honestly think about blogging more, but by the time I get on the computer it’s too late and all I want to do is go to bed. I’ve been hearing some good music lately though (at least I think so) and I want to share one of my favs. I think you might like. It’s called Dance for You by Beyonce. I heard it on Sirius XM this morning on my way to work. It’s off of her latest album 4. I somehow missed this track, but you know I scooped it up after hearing it today. Oh hey!

Case of You

9 Nov

It’s hard to find the time to blog these days, but when I come across a new song, it’s hard not to share. Although for some of you this may not be new, because it’s a cover of Joni Mitchell‘s 1971 classic, “Case of You” by James Blake. I heard this on NBC’s hit show Parenthood. I simply can’t get enough.

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I’m frightened by the devil
And I’m drawn to those ones that ain’t afraid
I remember that time
that you told me, you said
“Love is touching souls”
Surely you touched mine
“Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time

Oh you are in my blood like holy wine
And you taste so bitter but
you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you
I could drink a case of
you darling
Still I’d be on my feet
I’d still be on my feet

Someone Like You

30 Sep

One of my friends sent me this video today because she knows how much I love Adele. It’s a duet by Charlie Puth and Emily Luther who entered Perez Hilton‘s Someone Like You cover competition and won. It’s absolutely amazing and I encourage you all to take a listen. I have it on repeat. Let me know what you think.

Someone Like You sky-rocketed from 19-1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as 11-1 on Digital Songs with 275,000 downloads sold, and from 42-19 on Radio Songs, with 46 million all-format audience impressions! This single has been number one on the singles charts for three weeks (her first single, Rolling in the Deep is at five) – all of which makes Adele the first living artist since The Beatles to have two top five hits on both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Album Chart simultaneously. Congratulations Adele!

I’ll Make a World For You

19 Jul

The best feeling in the world is knowing you actually mean something to somebody. Everyone deserves to experience being head over heels in love and this song by Qwanell Moseley, former member of Day 26 and winner of the hit TV show Making the Band 4, reminds me of that feeling. The song is called “Medicine” and I first heard it when AnthonyQ put out his Guitar Her mixtape back in December. I instantly fell in love, but it doesn’t take much. I’m a sucka for love.

I’m especially proud to feature AnthonyQ on my blog because he’s from Rochester so he’s making us proud in Upstate NY. The video for this song (his first solo video) came out today so I’m now able to share it with you. I hope you enjoy. I hope you think of your one and only when listening! Time to overdose, overdose, overdose, cause baby you’re my medicine XO.

“MEDICINE”

Best Thing I Never Had

28 Jun

Beyonce’s new Album, 4, dropped today! I’m so excited – I’ve been waiting since the end of May to hear her new stuff. I’m not crazy about every song on the album, but here’s a favorite – Best Thing I Never Had. So fitting for my situation and what I feel today. And, in case you can’t hear all the words I included them below. Beyonce is amazing!

What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)
What goes around comes back around (hey my baby)

There was a time
I thought, that you did everything right
No lies, no wrong
Boy I, must’ve been outta my mind
So when I think of the time that I almost loved you
You showed your ass and I saw the real you

Thank God you blew it
Thank God I dodged the bullet
I’m so over you
So baby good lookin’ out

I wanted you bad
I’m so through with that
Cause honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had
You turned out to be the best thing I never had
And I’m gon’ always be the best thing you never had
I bet it sucks to be you right now

So sad, you’re hurt
Boo hoo, oh, did you expect me to care?
You don’t deserve my tears
I guess that’s why they ain’t there
When I think that there was a time that I almost loved you
You showed your ass and baby yes I saw the real you

Thank God you blew it
Thank God I dodged the bullet
I’m so over you
Baby good lookin’ out

I wanted you bad
I’m so through with that
Cause honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had
I said, you turned out to be the best thing I never had
And I’ll never be the best thing you never had
Oh baby I bet sucks to be you right now

I know you want me back
It’s time to face the facts
That I’m the one that’s got away
Lord knows that it would take another place, another time, another world, another life
Thank God I found the good in goodbye

I used to want you so bad
I’m so through with that
Cause honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had
You turned out to be the best thing I never had
And I will always be the, best thing you never had
Best thing you never had!

I used to want you so bad
I’m so through with that
Cause honestly you turned out to be the best thing I never had
Oh you turned out to be the best thing I never had
Oh I will never be the best thing you never had
Oh baby, I bet it sucks to be you right now

Goes around, comes back around
Goes around, comes back around
Bet it sucks to be you right now
Goes around, comes back around
Bet it sucks to be you right now
Goes around, comes back around
Bet it sucks to be you right now

Could Have Been You

13 Jun

This post is for all my ladies! Now that I’ve moved home and have a 40-minute commute to and from work, I get the chance to listen to more music in my car. It’s quite enjoyable considering I love music as much as Kathy Griffin loves her gays. A lot! I’m the girl in her car belting out songs and moving to the beat, but stop the minute someone pulls up next to me. I’m a little shy!

So we’ve all had our hearts broken at some point by a guy who we thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives with. The guy who we’d give everything for and not care we weren’t getting the same in return, because when you’re in love you put the other person first, right? Or the guy who we make excuses for because we want them to be someone they aren’t? Sound familiar? It does to me.

Now that I’ve had time to reflect on my last relationship, I’m so happy I’m out of it. I have felt much different this time than any other time my ex and I broke up. Like I know I’ve moved on and there’s no going back. It’s a great feeling, especially when a song like Joss Stone’s Could Have Been You comes on. Oh yeah! You know I turned this one up loud!

If I have any advice to give, it’s don’t ever forget about your own happiness and what’s important to you for someone you love. Be honest with yourself and with your partner and always communicate with one another. My ex and I did not communicate well and it was a big problem in our relationship. That and his lies.

6 Keys to a good relationship: friendship, freedom, honesty, trust, understanding, and communication.

I’m glad I get a second chance at love so I can really think about what I want out of a partner. I’m not settling this time and now that I know that there’s more out there, I’m going to get it.

Love Quotes

12 Jun

In a recent post I included quotes I found from people I follow on Twitter. Since then I have saved and copied more of my favorites to share with you. I hope you enjoy!

  • Just like a shoe, if someone is meant for you they will just fit perfectly. No forcing, no struggling, and no pain
  • Never chase them. Quickly replace them. Mistakes? Nah, I don’t retrace them, I just move on and quickly erase them
  • So there’s this guy, & the way he smiles makes me smile. His voice makes my heart skip a beat. When I see him, I get butterflies
  •  The scariest thing about distance is that you don’t know whether they’ll miss you or forget you
  •  When two people are meant for each other, no time is too long, no distance is too far, and no one can ever tear them apart
  • Here’s to the ones that love me, the losers that lost me, and the lucky bitches that get to meet me
  • We need to be hurt in order to grow, we must fail in order to know, we must lose in order to gain… lessons are learned best through pain

Ray LaMontagne

10 Jun

This past Saturday I went to the Ray LaMontagne concert with my mom out at CMAC. He was amazing live and it was one of the best concerts I’ve seen. I hadn’t heard too much of his music prior to going so I wasn’t for sure if I was going to like him, but it was great. My mama loved it too! As soon as I got home I downloaded his newest album, God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise. Here’s one of my favorites from the album. All you soulful, bluesy, country fans take a listen. What do you think? Oh how I love all types of music.
