I turned on Sirius XM radio the other day and a song was on I hadn’t heard before. It was just about over when the DJ came on and mentioned the artist’s name and compared her to Beyonce. I’m not quite sure I agree with that statement, but this woman has an amazing voice (and crazy hair too).
Her name’s Emeli Sandé and she’s a Scottish recording artist and songwriter. You might recognize her because she performed in both the opening and closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. She has also written songs for a number of artists, including Cher Lloyd, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, Alesha Dixon, Cheryl Cole and more.
Emeli recently came out with an album called Our Version of Events. After it’s release in February 2012, it peaked at number one in the UK. I encourage you to check it out.
I buy a lot of music from iTunes, but before I decide on buying an entire album I preview snippets of each song first. Sometimes, you can save money that way if you don’t like the whole album, but not always. In any case, I bought the entire album. Emeli has a unique voice that’s powerful and a bit soulful. There are few other good songs on the album too.
Here are some of my favs:
- My Kind of Love
- Breaking the Law
- Daddy (feat. Naughty Boy)
- Suitcase
- Wonder
Let me know what you think. Here’s the song she performed at the Olympics. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
