Could Have Been You

13 Jun

This post is for all my ladies! Now that I’ve moved home and have a 40-minute commute to and from work, I get the chance to listen to more music in my car. It’s quite enjoyable considering I love music as much as Kathy Griffin loves her gays. A lot! I’m the girl in her car belting out songs and moving to the beat, but stop the minute someone pulls up next to me. I’m a little shy!

So we’ve all had our hearts broken at some point by a guy who we thought we were going to spend the rest of our lives with. The guy who we’d give everything for and not care we weren’t getting the same in return, because when you’re in love you put the other person first, right? Or the guy who we make excuses for because we want them to be someone they aren’t? Sound familiar? It does to me.

Now that I’ve had time to reflect on my last relationship, I’m so happy I’m out of it. I have felt much different this time than any other time my ex and I broke up. Like I know I’ve moved on and there’s no going back. It’s a great feeling, especially when a song like Joss Stone’s Could Have Been You comes on. Oh yeah! You know I turned this one up loud!

If I have any advice to give, it’s don’t ever forget about your own happiness and what’s important to you for someone you love. Be honest with yourself and with your partner and always communicate with one another. My ex and I did not communicate well and it was a big problem in our relationship. That and his lies.

6 Keys to a good relationship: friendship, freedom, honesty, trust, understanding, and communication.

I’m glad I get a second chance at love so I can really think about what I want out of a partner. I’m not settling this time and now that I know that there’s more out there, I’m going to get it.
